In the North we call orchids Euang but there are many kinds of Euang.
Now local orchids in the wild are very hard to find so some orchid lovers
grow them in their house or garden. If you want to see these lovely flowers
you can visit orchid farms in the Maerim area and at the Queen Sirikit
Botanic Garden which has sent us the following pictures and information.
Pad Daeng
Cirrhopetalum lepidum (Blume) Schltr.
The flower has an oval shape and is 8-12 cm. in length. The petal is
white and crimson nearest the end of the petal. Found in every part of
the virgin forests in Thailand. Blooming August- December. Spreading especially
in Southeast Asia.
Euang Pha Viean
Dendrobium albosanguineum Lindl.
Other names are Euang Tung, Euang Ta Keow The petals are white, with
spots of violet. The bouquet is 15-20 cm. length. Found in virgin forests
in the North of Thailand. Blooming February- March. Spread throughout Thailand
and Burma.
Euang Karb Dok
Pholidota imbricata Hook
Other names are Euang Sai Soi, Euang Hang
Kra Ding. The flowers are bouquets. The stems are 40-cm. high, 1 cm. wide.
Found in every part of virgin forests in Thailand. Blooming May – July.
Spread throughout India and Southeast Asia.
