.gifFirst day -------------

We begin the first day at Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, the symbol of Chiangmai Province. The Wat provides a magnificient view of Chiangmai and houses relics of Lord Bhudda if you would like to pay your respects. Don't forget, it is lucky to count the steps of the naka stairs. After visiting the Wat, we drive south of Chiangmai to Doi Inthanon where we touch the highest spot in Thailand at 2,565 meters above sea level. On the way, we lunch at a local Thai restaurant. During the afternoon we take a 40 minute walk to visit the beautiful Vachiratarn waterfall and a Karen hill tribe village. That evening, we dine at a local Thai restaurant and spend the night at the PANG THONG Hotel.

.gifSecond day -----------------

At 08.00 we depart for the Grand Canyon of Thailand where we see a small segment of human history in addition to the magnificent scenery in the area. From the Grand Canyon we drive to the Hot Springs for a coffee break and the chance to eat a naturally cooked hard-boiled egg. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant where noodle soups are very popular. The afternoon drive takes us to see Mexican sunflowers which bloom in Nov/Dec and enjoy another coffee break. We drive on to Mae Sariang ( afternoon sleep - we call ) in the Khun Youm District. We overnight at BAAN FARANG, a bungalow teak house near the Myanmar (Burma) border. A fantastic and unforgettable concert is provided by an ensemble playing traditional Thai instruments.

.gifThird Day -------------

Leave for Mae Hong Son at 08.30. At Mae Hong Son City we see Shan Burmese style architecture and sculpture at Wat Jong Klang, Wat Jong Kum and Wat Prathad Doi Kong Mu. From the city we drive to see the ‘long-neck’, ‘long-ear’ people at ban-nai-soi who, in turn, like to see the ‘long-leg’ people ( the foreigners ) - Lunch is served at a local restaurant ( noodles again but not a soup: fried noodles this time. The restaurant also serves vegetarian food ). Afternoon, we drive on to Load Cave ( the most interesting cave in the North ) then visit a Lisu hill tribe village (Please bring candy for the people you want to photograph...) We spend the night at a resort in the Pai district.

.gifFourth Day ----------------

At 07.30 we leave from Pai to make the 10.00 demonstration at The Leamg-Dao Elephant Training Centre. From there, we drive north to Fang and Taton for lunch. (We hope not noodles but it may be something similar). In the afternoon we visit Akha and Lao hill tribes and Chinese K.M.T where we try the best tea and Chinese pineapple wine (WARNING: Do not try more than one glass but buy a bottle for the evening). We have dinner and overnight at RIM CHAN Resort.

.gifFifth Day -------------

At 8.30 we drive up to Chiangsaen ( an ancient city ) then board a long-tail boat for a cruise up the Khong River to the Golden Triangle. From there, we drive to Mae Sai on the Thai-Myanmar border where we will see a variety of stones and have lunch at a Chinese restaurant (be sure to try some of the spices). In the afternoon we head for Chiang Rai, visit around the city and then take road number 108 back to Chiangmai. On the way back we stop for coffee and try some homemade Thai cake in a beautiful rose garden. We arrive back in Chiangmai in the late afternoon. The last evening programme is a Khantoke dinner at 19.00. Dinner ends at 21.00 at which time we say bye-bye and goodluck to everyone.
