The generosity of 'Good Morning Chiangmai News' readers in 2001 meant
that we gave out a record amount of your used clothing, shoes, toys and
books to 3 hilltribe villages on December 9th.
Kids with no shoes, old folks and young mothers without blankets, a
school with almost no books - 960 people in Akha, Karen and Lisu villages
near Chang Dao benefited from your gifts early last winter. A very warm
thank you from all!
The 2002 Appeal, focussing on clothes in children's sizes in particular,
has again gone well and all are welcome to join our annual convoy, The
Clothes Line, to the hand-over next month. But meanwhile there's still
time to drop off any unwanted items here at our office or Chiangmai
Gate Hotel.

A FLOWERING TALENT
'Star', whose work we featured on the cover of our September issue,
is an Akha flower seller on the streets of Chiangmai, often too exhausted
to go to school. But since becoming more well known and receiving tuition
from celebrated local French artist Alain, 'Star' has gained confidence
in her talent and is drawing almost every day.
L'Elephant Blanc Restaurant, Loi Kroh Road, has kindly given
tuition facilities and a small fund is being amassed to pay for materials
- and encourage the artist's mother to allow her proper schooling time.
If you would like to help 'Star' by purchasing examples of her work,
call in any evening to L'Elephant Blanc, ask for proprietor Eric, and get
full information in French, English or Thai. tel 0-5392-9052.
