Just like other parts of town, Charoenprathet Road (parallel to the
river, linking our southern parts with Nawarat Bridge) shows certain signs
of going up-market. A couple of good new restaurants as well as smart "old
faithfuls" - and now a luxurious Spa in which you can truly spoil
yourself.
SPArkle at BAN SABAI
Impossible to miss with a pair of elegant white Naga dragons guarding
it's portal, Ban Sabai has arrived
from Co Samui to pamper visitor and resident alike with all manner of massages,
masques, herbal treatments and manicures. There's even a herbal steam sauna
in this deceptively large establishment, in my experience a great hors
d'oeuvres prior to a 'main course' massage!
A 60 minute herbal foot massage is one way for a newcomer to ease their
way in to these delights. It's a modest investment at 600b and quite likely
to whet your appetite to go back for more - or indeed go the whole hog
while you're there. That would take you into the realms of classical Thai
massage, aroma oil or herbal steam, all 2-hour items on Ban Sabai's menu
and in the 900b to 1100b range. (The right hand side of their menu is interesting
- Regent Resort 5-star ambience at non-5-star prices!).
JUST LIKE THE REAL THING?
Almost! This metal bas relief of a Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero-Sen actually
represents an aircraft of the 64th Sentai, wich was stationed here at Chiangmai.
Framed in dark Thai timber, each piece is numbered and only 1000 pieces
will ever be produced. Made by Thai craftsmen with care.
At the opening early last month, these folk did the logical thing and
had their party catered for by Elizabeth Kitchen right next door.
Tasty Indian-style items, from light snacks to more substantial fare: as
we've said before another assett to this long and varied street.
My advice is to pamper yourself at Ban Sabai after touring or shopping
late afternoon, then turn left with a spring in your step for yet another
of Chiangmai's tantalising evening adventures…..
