Aware that the wrong sort of snacking could badly boost his profile,
Ric Klein shopped for healthy nibbles before an interesting cinema experience…..
Remembering Rimping Chotana's superb, unique evening Food Fair
back in April, where local suppliers gave free samples in the garden area
behind the supermarket next to the Novotel, it was there I steered
in search of snackfood of the non-MSG variety.

With 499 other visitors (Rimping's head count!) to compete with it was
no wonder that I had missed some goodies, so I compensated with the Chiangmai
Pickle King's whole wheat pita breads (50b for a 4 pack) and tubs of
creamy hummus and Lebanese yogurt cheese (50b each) to keep the pangs at
bay in a healthy way. (I also noted the extra feel-good factor that their
hummus has 38% less fat and calories than the conventional chick pea type).
When I've space next month I'll clue you about some Very refreshing soft
drink & mixer combinations on Rimping's shelves too.
JUST LIKE THE REAL THING?
Almost! The Spitfire Mk V111 in RAAF livery (no red to avoid confusion with the enemy by ground gunners), arguably the best looking piston-engined plane ever! Framed in dark Thai timber, each piece is numbered and only 1000 pieces
will ever be produced. Made by Thai craftsmen with care.
Since I first heard the term "private screening" it's taken
20 years to achieve one! Previously reserved for top critics and entertainment
writers only, the intimate little cinemas with sofas and refreshments are
now available to us all thanks to places like Future Media in Nimmanhemin
Road near the Amari-Rincome Hotel.
Long overdue for this type of relaxery, I gathered up my purchases (added
a few unhealthy beers and 2 healthy friends) and headed for the air-con
library of big screen hits awaiting anyone with a mere 200b of budget for
a good night 'in'.
Prior booking of film and start time by phone is a good idea, then just
walk in and drop out! Cool, clean and cosey, surround-sound that really
pleased one friend with a slight hearing challenge - and enough space for
at least 6 folk to stretch in comfort. Masses of titles - many very recent
too. Highly recommended - we'll all be back!
